Bear Trap Question-
I really enjoyed reading about this idea. I know that a lot of people use it either for everyday uses or for something as important to them as politics and for religion.
My question is this.
Have you ever used one of these questions? And if so, what was the situation it was used in?

I have used this method on my wife before. I will not go into to much detail because its pretty shamefull. In my case, (and I am sure this is true for others) it is just a gut reaction to a situation. Maybe you feel threatened or attacked. No matter what it never really works in the end. You just end up looking like an ass.
Talking to a racist or a bigot would be open season for bear-trap questions. I'm sure I've used them in such situations.
Of course, the same tactic could be applied to any cross-cultural dialogue.
Here's some ideas:
To a Catholic: "Why you do revere Roman Catholicism when it was Rome that persecuted the early Christians?"
To a Muslim: "What kind of god would allow such sex discrimination?"
To every 6-year-old: "If all your friends jumped off a bridge, would you do it too?"
Bear trap questions add to the confusion in the worst possible way. They don't further the dialogue, they provoke unpleasant emotions and they allow for the mutation of a debate into an argument.
Best leave them to unimaginative types and lawyers.
